My father was talking with a woman the other day who had recently had a baby. He told her about J and I, and how we were still undecided about the name, to which she replied, “When they see the baby, they’ll just know.”
Apparently my father went home and told my mother about this conversation, who paused and then announced, loudly, “Pruneface.”

P said, the first time she held Big A — maybe she should be Jane Curtain…the original Conehead.
But Big A’s came down to whether she was calm or crying, then we just made the names stick accordingly for first and middle after the first hour. So it’s not a crazy notion that you know it when you see it, but have a short list.

When my sister Sheila was in nursing school, she had to do a stint on the Maternity Ward. One day she assisted in the delivery of a baby. She later checked on the mother and asked her what she was going to name the child. The mother said that she wasn’t sure…until she heard a name in the delivery room. The mom proudly proclaimed, “I think I’ll name the baby Placenta…Placenta Jones.”

That actually reminds me of two more examples…how we got named on the fly…
I was going to be named after a local chef who’s TV show was on at the time during labor, or after a PBS documentary on a different station. My mom swore that if I was born before the guy’s turkey was done, I would be Happy Chef or something (I was an 11/2 baby)…but I ended up later and there was a Nordic documentary so I became Eric.
Pilar was named that when her mom had no idea and named her after John Wayne’s wife, who was on a news show, and figuring it was a nice compromise with the Northern and Southern Italian way to go; they went Spanish.
I still think it’s funny neither of our parents had a “play list.”
Have fun with it! It’s the coolest thing to decide.

Good thing we didn’t use that technique or we would’ve named him something like “Misshapen head” or “Oversized Balls”

I would have been named Black Hair On My Ears

Cara became Cara because the name sounded either Irish or Italian so we could lie to our families. we decided when banbino 2 was coming to name a girl after mom’s mother and grandmonm and a born after my father and grandfather. Thus, vin was born
Other that that, I just agree with Mom
