Feeling determined: Some things I’d kind of like to stop doing
Posted by Cara under general , philosophyEating peanut butter straight out of the jar when we don’t have anything else for a snack.
Saying “awesome” so much, especially to, like, town board members and senior citizens.
Talking about my newfound respect for a woman’s biological clock and how much I love babies while drinking at weddings.
Getting mad at the local NPR station when they are playing their weekend music shows and not talk radio, because that’s pretty lame.
Opting for reruns of “Dharma and Greg” instead of taking the dogs for a walk.
Losing an earring every single time I wear earrings, it’s ridiculous.
Skipping straight to the entertainment news on CNN.com.
Thinking somewhat negative thoughts about myself, for instance, thinking I’m lazy and don’t work hard enough, or that my hair doesn’t look very good, because first of all, I work pretty hard, and also summer is a great time to let you hair go sort of wild.
Maybe watching “The Today Show,” I don’t know, I’m disenchanted.
Letting open bottles of wine go bad.

We actually had an open bottle of wine discussion over BBQ on Memorial Day. My dad’s got this very cool walk-on wine thingy with some couple of hundreds of great wines. So what what did we drink? A very nice wine out of a box. I’m not kidding, this was good stuff. But his thing was that the plastic bladder and spigot means that air never touches it once you start pouring, so it’s perfect in the back yard for BBQ. Here is the ultimate wine snob (well, he does collect a lot) and he was pushing boxes of wine.

yeah, i’ve heard that boxed wine has come a long way since the days of franzia and there are actually some really good ones now. in terms of saving open bottles, check out this little experiment i saw online: http://www.wineintro.com/basics/opened/
pretty interesting. everything i’ve read says 3 days is about the max and that you should always refrigerate an open bottle (even red) and just take it out half an hour before serving it.
PS: you are wonderful. and hair should definitely be wild in the summer.

Open wine is perfect for cooking, at least in my house.
Try lever back closure earrings, they don’t fall out so easily and when you take them off you can connect them together (greater possibility of losing them both but then a least it’s not just one)
Keep microwave popcorn around the house, perfect snack that is more filling and less calories than peanut butter (though I totally understand - I love it too!)

Wine can be frozen as ice cubes… and used later in cooking. If you freeze what’s left of your bottle of sparkling wine, the cubes can be popped into a glass of OJ the next morning (or at a later date) for a really refreshing Mimosa.

ps… Unfortunately even though boxed wine stays freshest the longest, most wineries won’t package it that way because they don’t believe that consumers will except wine that comes in a box as a serious (read good) choice.
pps… i miss the ‘What I’m reading now’ section. Wish it would come back.
ppps… Hope the plumbing situation got resolved. i find myself worrying about it in the middle of the night.
